The exotic landscape and the ideal weather conditions make also Lefkada a favourite place to practice water sports. The beach of Agios Ioannis, on the north side of the island, with its deep waters, is preferred among windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over the world.
The best period to practice water sports there is in spring and summer, from April to September in particular, when the temperature is higher and the winds appropriate for that. Soft winds of 4-5 knots blow in the morning, which gradually become stronger in the afternoon and reach 14-19 knots in the evening.
Kiteboarding usually takes place in front of the windmills that stand along the right side of the beach because the wind is more stable there, while windsurfing is mostly practiced on the left side, where the winds soften.
